Sassafras Gully – 22 January 2016

It had only been 4 days since my last visit to Sassafras Gully, but this was an opportunist trip, organised at the last minute with the main objective to try and photograph Clarinda and Numantia Falls.

Clarinda Falls

Clarinda Falls

Both these waterfalls are not very spectacular in normal flow conditions. I had been watching the Council weather station at Springwood and it had indicated about 28 mm of rain hadĀ fallen on the previous afternoon. So I thought a trip may be worthwhile.

I caught the train to Faulconbridge and set off down the Victory Track. It was not raining and the rainforest in the gully that the track follows was very nice after the rain.

It did not take long to arrive at Clarinda Falls. They were up a bit, but could have benefit with more water. I stopped for some photos, then continued along the track.

I turned off the Victory Track at Numantia Creek and followed up a faint side track to Numantia Falls. These take about 15 minutesĀ to reach. The track is quite easy to follow.

Numantia Falls

Like Clarinda Falls, Numantia Falls could have benefitted by more water. But the falls were still nice and well worth seeing.

I walked back to the Victory Track and continued along it, and then down the Sassafras Gully Track to Glenbrook Creek. There, I had a swim in the Lagoon and then lunch. It was starting to rain, and more storms were forecast, so I walked back to Springwood via the track to Sassafras Gully Road.

Please. Dont give out the area/directions for off the tracks falls as the other local falls are getting destroyed.
