Taronga Zoo – Visit on 25 November 2015

Having a yearly zoo pass makes it easy to visit the zoo many times. This visit I wanted to get some more photos and to try a different camera system to what I took on my visit the week before.

It was another hot day and conditions at the zoo were quite similar to those of the previous visit. One difference, was in Sydney Harbour. There was a flotilla of P&O cruise ships moored in various places. I counted four huge ships, but apparently there was a fifth one somewhere.

With a yearly zoo pass and the ease of making multiple visits, it is easy to be patient and wait for some of the animals to appear. On my last visit I had beeb fortunate in observing and photographing the brush tail rock wallabies in the Blue Mountains Bushwalk section. On this visit I observed them again, but also had a very good look at the shy platypus. Once I spotted where she was in the pool, I just waited patiently with my camera ready, waiting for her to surface again. She did. A few times. And I knew it was a female. I asked a keeper how many where in that pool. She said, normally two – a male and female, but they had recently mated and the male had been taken out.

The bird show was again very good, and a fair bit different to the one I and seen the week before.
