Empress Canyon – Revisited

After the Boxing Day canyoning trip, John was staying in the mountains with his wife Claire and kids. Other friends – Sarah and James were also around. It was a good chance to meet up, do an easy canyon and a nice bush walk. Don and his daughter, Elata, joined us also. Empress Canyon and the nearby National Pass were chosen.

John took his kids to the bottom of the canyon, while Claire, Sarah, James and myself did a quick trip through the canyon. At the start, we were puzzled to find someone had ripped out the logbook container that had sensibly been placed by National Parks to allow visitors to see how many parties were in front and so not get stuck in the canyon.

The canyon was in very nice condition – and quite high after recent rain

We abseiled down the single waterfall in the canyon – Empress Falls and joined the others for a picnic lunch below. This allowed John to leave us and do a quick trip through the canyon.

After lunch we went along the National Pass walk.
