Back to Bola Creek – a Look for Fungi – 13 May 2015

After finding some great fungi at Sassafras Gully the day before, I was keen to check out Bola Creek again. It is also a very good place to see colourful hygrocybes. I went there with Digi Dave. As it turned out, the day was fairly disappointing. I had thought that recent rain, falling while I was in Tasmania may have reinvigorated the fungi there, but it seems the rain came down in a big storm or two and brought the creek up in a flood that washed away developing fungi.

We only found a few hygrocybes – and not really too much else.

Here are a few fungi that we saw on the day –

We had quite a good look around for fungi (and I think we know the likely spots now) before it started raining. We beat a hasty retreat as the rain became heavier and then we even had some hail. But probably not enough rain to bring out new fungi. Hopefully the next visit will be better.

A few more photos are on my website here.

I went the Sunday after Wolli Creek, and I had meant to warn you about Bola Creek, it was the worst I’ve ever seen it. It seems that consistent moderate or light rain is more what fungi need, as even away from the creek it was fairly poor. Did get a few nice photos as what was there were fresher.
