Erskine Creek Walk – 18 – 19 April 2015

Keith had invited some friends to help celebrate his birthday by going on a walk to Erskine Creek. Erskine Creek is in the Blue Labyrinth and can reached along fire trails and then a choice of several tracks from Glenbrook. The eaiest way to the creek is along the Jack Evans Track, but the better place to go to is at the junction of Erskine Creek and Lincolns Creek where there is a very nice campsite and a really great swimming hole.

Its a very short track to reach this part of Erskine Creek but you do need to scramble down a series of short cliffs. The scrambles can be a bit tricky and this is probably the reason why the area is not too crowded.

In our party, as well as Keith, Digi Dave and myself, was John and Chuin Nee. John was carrying baby son Jasper, Chuin Nee is pregnant, and as well was carrying a heavy pack full of equipment and food. So we used a short rope to assist with the cliff descents.

We had the campsite to ourselves and we could then explore the area. Just downstream of the swimming hole is a nice section of rock slabs and rapids – which offers some nice photographic opportunities. More slabs and interesting features can be found a short distance up Lincolns Creek. As well – near the campsite were some nice fungi. I had so many photographic subjects that I forgot to photograph the celebrations!

The water in the creek was also very nice for swimming.

On Sunday, we were joined by Wyn.

After lunch and another swim or two, we packed up and started back up the track. Jasper, not yet three, insisted on walking up by himself and didn’t travel in the backpack at all. He was able to climb up the small cliffs with a bit of assistance in a few spots (plus being protected from falling). Well done Jasper!

    Hi David, Great photos!

I’m heading in there in a few weeks and was wondering what the water quality is like and if it was drinkable?

    Cheers

    • Dave Noble says:

The water in Erskine Creek is probably drinkable, but note there are houses a long way upstream in the catchment. But there is no development in the side creeks – e.g. Lincolns Creek – so I draw my water from that.
