More Birds of the Cooks River – 28 October 2014

I went down with my camera after hearing about some Tawny Frogmouth chicks that can be seen.

They took a while to find – but I spotted two sets  of Tawny Frogmouths. Each set consisted the parents and two chicks. I photographs them during the day – so the parents were asleep, not too high up in trees. Near them were the chicks. I think the chicks were quite special.

Both sets were along the Cooks River between Wardell Road and Canterbury Road.

I also ventured to the Tempe Wetlands. I had not been there before, and it consists of three large pools, fairly close to the airport end of the Cooks River, and very close to the Golf Driving Range at Tempe. A sign here says that local birders had recorded over 80 species here.

I have added a selection of photos taken on the day on my website here on Page 6 of my Birds of Cook River Gallery. This gallery has the species names.

  1. Andrew Taylor says:

Your butcherbird is a Grey Butcherbird – its the only butcherbird you are likely to see in Sydney (Pied Butcherbird is a scarce visitor to sydney’s north).

Nice finding two pairs of frogmouth – will go and look for them on weekend.
