This is the time of year for bushwalkers from SUBW and friends to head down from Megalong Valley via the Six Foot Track to the Coxs River.
The club heads down to a nice sheltered campsite that is close to a swimming hole and some great rapids.
In these parts, the Coxs River has cut through to a granite batholith. This rock is particularly striking. Pale in colour, with pink flecks, and eroded into weird and beautiful shapes. It is a great place to wander around with a camera.
Each year the club goes to the same place – but each year it is different. The river is different – sometimes high, sometimes barely a trickle. The swimming hole can be deep or shallow depending on how the river has dumped sand. This year the river was low, but still quite nice. Great for swimming.
In the evening, the party relocates from the river to around the campfire, for sharing of food and drink and then some campfire songs. Till late at night……
Next morning more swimming, photography and socialising. It is good to catch up with old friends and make new ones. I didn’t count the size of the party but others did. I’m told 48 walkers were there.
Most of us walked out around midday on Sunday.
More photos are on my website here and here. Thanks to Ashley for organising the walk.
