Walk to the Deer Pool and Little Marley Beach – 5 June 2019

A wet day was forecast, and we certainly had some rain on the walk – but it was quite a pleasant outing. This was a walk led by Brian Everingham for the National Parks Association of NSW.

With the adverse forecast, some of the participants pulled out, but that still left – Brian, Paul , Sue, Valerie, Kay and myself. We had showers on and off most of the day, and there were plenty of wet bushes, and it was also quite cold. But not too much suffering was endured. The bush was beautiful. A number of wildflowers were out, the birds were singing (but not when my camera was out) and the sea was powerful. Very powerful indeed. It was the high sea that made the trip memorable.

We followed the track from the Bundeena Road down to the Deer Pool.

Then after some photos, we continued on to the coast, and walked the short distance to Little Marley Beach.

We had lunch in the shelter provided by the Casuarina forest behind the beach.

After lunch, we continued a short way south along the Coastal Track to get a view of the sea from the clifftop.

Then we returned to Little Marley, and then back to the road the same way we had come via the Deer Pool. Just past the beach, we noticed this hole in the dirt next to the track. It was quite large and deep. We wondered which animal had made it.

A few more photos taken on the way back –

This was a very pleasant walk, with great company. On the way back, the car I was travelling in (Valerie’s car), stopped at the tea room at Audley. While drinking some excellent coffee, we watched a nice series of photos of Royal National Park shown on the TV at the NPWS counter. Well worth seeing.

Thanks to Brian Everingham for leading the walk.
