Bicentennial Park Birds (and Spiders) – 14 January 2019

The forecast was for hot weather. Very hot weather, so I wanted to do an easy activity with shade available and not too much walking, and no hills to climb. A wander around the pools at Bicentennial Park seemed to fit the bill.

Australian Shelducks

I caught a train to Concord West and walked the short distance to the park. I then headed to the ponds. Despite the hot weather, there were a reasonable number of birds out. Here are some –

Red-necked Avocets

Black-winged Stilts

And a Stilt landing on top of an Avocet –

Sharp-tailed Sandpipers

Australian Shelducks

These were a new bird for me.

Superb Fairy-wrens

Great Egret

Pelican

Australian Darter

Welcome Swallows

Chestnut Teal

White-plumed Honeyeater

At one point, I noticed that a lot of the wading waterbirds took off and flew about, making a lot of noise –

What could disturb them? looking up I found out –

It was a Sea Eagle. A Silver Gull was trying to encourage it to leave.

Lastly, some of the many spiders
