Canyoning in the Blue Mountains – 24 January 2013

Bob and myself headed up the mountains where we met up with Chris and Suzie and headed out to our canyon.

Early on the walk out to the canyon, we crossed an open rocky area and found a nice rock pool with lots of aboriginal sharpening grooves. A nice start.

After an easy, short walk into the creek we descended some loverly cascades. Most of these we could scramble down, but one we used a handline.

The canyon was not a very sustained constriction – rather a very nice open creek interspersed with a few short sections of canyon. There were a couple of wades and swims and one very short abseil.

All the way down the creek – the creek bed was really nice with many small cascades and small waterfalls. Lower down it became a bit more bouldery. But them it was time to climb out. It was not hard to find a pass out and then back along a ridge back to the car.

A very nice day out. More photos are on my website here.
