Wattamolla to Little Marley Walk – 16 November 2018

Another pleasant day spent in Royal National Park. This time it was a walk with Digi Dave from Wattamolla to Little Marley via the Coastal Track and then back the same way.

At Wattamolla, there were the usual Water Dragons near the creek.

And plenty of wild flowers out along the track.

The Fringe Lilies were abundant –

And some New Holland Honeyeaters in the heath –

When we arrived at the cliffs, we stopped for a break.

We looked at the Aboriginal sharpening grooves and some art  –

We also looked for the Peregrine Falcons I had seen nesting in that location on a previous trip. One was nearby, perched out of sight. We only noticed it when it suddenly flew off. It did not return. So we kept on walking. Soon we arrived at an area of interesting wind eroded sandstone. This is one of my favourite places on the Coastal Track.

At Little Marley, we found a nice shady place under the trees to sit and have our lunches. After lunch we slowly started to walk back. At the spot we had looked for the Peregrine Falcons on the way, we looked again. One was sitting on the edge of he cliff nearby.

It was a juvenile. It then flew off, but circled around and landed somewhere out of sight. Another, an adult was perched on the cliffs below –

I waited for a while to see if the young one would return. It did, or it could have been its sibling, as later there were two juveniles flying around. The adult stayed fixed to its perch all the time. Here are some photos –

I then left and walked quickly to catch up with Digi Dave. We soon made it back to the carpark. Nearby there were some Super Fairy-wrens –

And the usual Water Dragon –

And a Lace Monitor was on patrol –

Another great day in the bush. Thanks to Digi Dave for the driving and the company.

    Hi David,

I’ve been fascinated with your indigenous findings, having come across multiple sites in the RNP myself. Would you be able to be more specific as to the location of the grooves and art you found on this walk?

I understand if you would prefer not to reveal this information.

    Many thanks,

    Glen
