Wolli Creek – Birds and Fungi – 12 June 2018

I spent a pleasant day walking down the Two Valleys Track from Bexley North to Tempe. It had been raining and I was hoping some fungi would be out after such a poor fungi season so far. There was some out. I also took along camera gear to photograph birds.

There was not that much fungi out compared to good conditions. Perhaps it had been too dry for too long? But some fungi is much bette than none, and it should get better in the future hopefully. Here is some of the fungi I photographed –

More photos of the fungi are online here.

There seemed to be a lot of birds out judging by their calls, but a lot of them seemed to come from the creek, well away from the track. Here are some of the birds –

When I got close to Tempe Station, as I was crossing the bridge, I spotted a Sacred Kingfisher, perched on a parapet. I decided to get closer as try and get some photos. I managed a few before it flew off. I then crossed over the small stormwater drain to the downstream side and saw the Kingfisher on the mudflat. It had caught a mudcrab. It was interesting to watch –
