Tempe and Cooks River Birds – 20 May 2018

I spent a very interesting day along parts of the Cooks River looking for and photographing birds. I started out by cycling to the Tempe Wetlands.

I was on the lookout for honeyeaters – but I did not find all the species I had seen on my previous visit. Here are some that I did find –

New Holland Honeyeater –

White Plumed Honeyeater –

I did manage to see quite a few Spotted Pardalotes. Here are a few pictures –

Also quite a few Silvereyes –

And some Welcome Swallows

Superb Fairy Wrens –

Golden Whistlers –

Also a Grey Fantail –

Some of the other birds –

After visiting the Tempe Wetlands, I rode around Tempe Reserve. In the Alexandria Canal, I saw a Cormorant that had just caught rather a large fish. I stopped and photographed it manipulating the fish into a position so it could swallow it head first.

I then cycled along the Cooks River Cycleway to the Boat Harbour. On the way I passed another Cormorant –

At the Boat Harbour there where quite a few Cormorants and Pelicans. At the Cup and Saucer Wetlands there was a large flock of  Sulphur Crested Cockatoos nearby –

I then moved down to watch the Cormorants.

It was interesting to see what I presume is courtship behaviour between two of the Cormorants. They started by touching their beaks. The one grabbed the other ones tail feathers. After a while, the second one did the same thing.
