Nature Along Wolli Creek – 15 May 2018

It had been a while since I had been along the Two Valleys Track down Wolli Creek, so I thought it was about time I visited my local patch of bushland.

I caught a train to Bexley North Station and then set out along the track. I was looking to see if any fungi was out, so had a camera with macro lens and a tripod for that. But I was not too hopeful and also had my birding camera with me. In the end, I used that camera for the vast majority of photos.

The fungi was very poor, and the birds were quite good. A bit surprising for the middle of a warm day. My first stop was for an Eastern Yellow Robin. It was a bit shy and hard to photograph. This was the best I could do –

A spider was easier –

And I did find some jelly fungi on a log –

At the open grassy area, there were a few birds out. A magpie was looking for food in the grass –

And a few Bulbuls were around –

And down at the creek were a few Swamphens –

Some other birds were nearby –

Silvereye

Grey Fantail

I didn’t see too many more things until I crossed the road at Bardwell Park. In the grassy area on the far side I stopped to watch a Nosy Miner catching insects –

And then suddenly a Yellow Faced Honeyeater gave out an alarm call –

A raptor was circling overhead –

Then two more emerged –

I watched them for a while. I am not sure if they are Brown Goshawks or Collared Sparrowhawks.

I then continued to Girrahween Park for some lunch.

Welcome Swallow

I didn’t see to many more birds along the track to Turrella Reserve. I did see one nice fungus –

Aphlelaria sp

I also spent time photographing the Flying Foxes –

And one more Silvereye –

At Terrella Reserve I spent some time photographing a Willie Wagtail –

And, a small flock of Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos flew over –

Another Welcome Swallow at the Reserve –

I then started along the bushland section towards Tempe. A few honeyeaters were around .

Yellow Faced Honeyeater

New Holland Honeyeater

I stopped at one birdcall I heard and then tried to spot the caller. I saw it a few times and thought it was a Scarlet Honeyeater. But I was unable to get a photo of it. I did manage to photograph a Brown Gerygone –

Near Tempe Station I did spot a Cormorant with a fish –

And a few more –
