Dharawal Nature Reserve Walk – 6 April 2018

This was a pleasant walk led by Brian Everingham for the National Parks Association of NSW. As well as Brian, there were Allen, Ken, Suzanne, Esther, Gary, Bob, Derek and myself on  the walk.

We first did the short walk to Maddens Falls in Dharawal National Park. Its a nice area – but there was not much flow over the falls.

It was nice to spot a Rock Warbler darting around the creek.

We then returned to the road, and set off along a fire road – it crossed Maddens Creek and then continued through attractive woodlands. This was through Dharawal Nature Reserve which adjoins the National Park. It lies between the park and the Princess Motorway.

One highlight was the number of different Banksias we observed.

As well there were quite a few insects and birds. One pool on the road was a nice birdbath for some Yellow Faced Honeyeaters and Silvereyes.

We later turned off to the left and followed a mother fire road through open heath towards the Motorway.

We were astonished to see some Christmas Bells in flower –

And more Honeyeaters, Emu Wrens and a Dusky Woodswallow –

We returned the same way.

This was a very pleasant walk. Thanks to Brian for organising it. More photos are online here on my website.
