Tasmania – Franklin River and Nelson Falls – 9 March 2018

After completing the Mt Anne Walk, we headed to Mt Field National Park to camp in the very crowded campground. The next day, we dropped Steph off at New Norfolk, where she could get a bus to Hobart. Wendy and myself then headed up the Lyell Highway, heading to the Tarkine. On the way we completed two short walks – one at the Franklin River and another to Nelson Falls.

Franklin River Nature Walk

This is a short walk through rainforest where the Lyell Highway crosses the Franklin River. It is a very pleasant and easy walk through delightful forest – but unfortunately on our visit the conditions were very dry. I had been hoping to see some fungi out – but there was not very much. And the river was very low.

Nelson Falls Walk

This is further along the Lyell Highway, and is another easy walk along the beautiful Nelson River to Nelson Falls. Again – dry conditions meant low flow over the waterfall and not much fungi out.

We camped the night at the campground at Lake Burberry.
