Blue Mountains Weekend – 8 – 9 September 2012

Su Li had organised a weekend to welcome back Stacey. She had recently returned from a long overseas trip. A walk was planned on the Asgard Plateau at Mt Victoria and after that we would meet others and camp at Mt Wilson.

Digi Dave and myself went up the mountains on the Friday night to camp at Perrys Lookdown. The plan was to get up early and photograph the dawn.

From there we made a quick trip out to Pulpit Rock Lookout and after a coffee stop in Blackheath, we drove out the road to Victoria Falls Lookout and met the others at the Asgard Swamp trail.

The Asgard Plateau is an attractive place. It was not surprising to find a lot of other walkers out there. Our party walked to the swamp and then to Thor Head. This head provides commanding views of the upper Grose Valley and it was a good place to stop for lunch. We then went and explored the old mine that is nearby.

From there we walked back to the cars and drove to Mt Wilson to camp. Digi Dave and myself went via Du Faurs Rocks Lookout – but clouds made for a disappointing sunset.

A pleasant evening was had at Mt Wilson Cathedral campground. Other friends had joined us – including Meri, whose birthday it was on Sunday.

On Sunday, some of the party went to Mt York for some climbing. I went with Digi Dave, John, Chuin Nee and Jasper to Rigby Hill, near Pierces Pass. More fine views of the Grose Valley!

Our last stop was the Botanic Gardens at Mt Tomah. This is a very attractive place. Some spring flowers were out – but it was not as good as our Autumn visit. It was however warm enough for a red-belly black snake to make an appearance.
