Sassafras Gully Walk – 17 January 2018

I spent a pleasant day up at Springwood – walking down to Sassafras Gully and back.

Rufous Fantail

I was looking to see what orchids were out and what birds I could photograph. I did not expect any fungi – as I thought it had been too dry.

Crimson Rosella

It was quite a hot day, but it was not too bad in the cool of the rainforest in the gully.

Orchid – growing on a tree. Perhaps Bulbophyllum exiguum

I walked down via the track from Sassafras Gully Road. I walked as far as The Lagoon, where Sassafras Gully joins Glenbrook Creek. This was a great place for a swim. I had lunch there also.

I then slowly made my way out via The Wiggins Track then walked back to Springwood.

Here are some of the birds I saw. I am not sure of the identification of a lot of these birds –

And some Mountain Dragons –

Not many orchids out. I saw quite a few old ones. Perhaps they flowered earlier this year?

Bonnet Orchid – Cryptostylis erecta

    Hi David,

    Lovely photos as always.

The image http://www.david-noble.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/SG17Jan18-11.jpg looks like a green backed oriole.
