Birds at Tempe Wetlands – 14 October 2017

I joined the Tempe Birdos for their monthly bird count at Tempe Wetlands and Tempe Reserve. The group met at the wetlands at 7:30 am and then broke into two subgroups – one to survey the wetlands and the other the Reserve.

We were also all distressed to see the recent bushfire damage.

At the wetlands, there were quite a a few baby birds in the lower pool – Mainly Dusky Moorhen chicks.

It was very nice to observe a Buff Banded Rail in the lower pool mudflats.

The top pool was again completely dry. But we did spot quite a few birds in the surrounding bushland –

We then headed to the Reserve, to meet the other subgroup for morning tea. After this I cycled around the Reserve to see what I could spot. I saw a nice Eastern Koel and a Heron on the rocks –

Around the other side was a Spoonbill. Perhaps the one we had often seen in the middle pool of the wetlands?

I then headed towards home, but on my way I got a message from Eri, a friend who wanted to see the Tawny Frogmouth chicks. So we met up at the Dog Area and soon spotted the birds –
