Fungi at Mt Wilson – 24 June 2017

This was an interesting field activity with the Sydney Fungal Studies Group Inc held at the Waterfall reserve at Mt Wilson.

Gliophorus chromolimoneus – one of the waxcaps we found

The weather on the day was fine but quite cool. But we had a good group turn up and with everyone looking for fungi, we spotted a lot of interesting species.

Mt Wilson is a well known place both for finding orchids and waxcap fungi. However on previous visits I had not seen too many waxcaps. Perhaps it had been too dry on those occasions. On this visit it had also been quite dry on the previous few weeks, but we did find a reasonable number of waxcaps –

We also found a number of fungi that parasitise insects. This included both the usual Cordyceps –

And we also found the interesting Isaria cicadae which parasitises a cicada nymph.

And some of the other fungi –

More photos are online on my website here together with identifications.
