Spectacle Island Bushcare – 3 June 2017

Our bushcare group headed out to Spectacle Island in the Hawkesbury River for some weeding. We met at Bobin Head and then embarked on the NPWS boat for the Island.

We had to travel down to the Hawkesbury River and then upstream, under the railway bridge to Spectacle Island – a Nature Reserve.

Once on the Island, we found the bush to be surprisingly good. Most of the Island seems to be weed free, but there are some areas of weeds close to the shore in various places. We also collected some rubbish from the beaches and rocks.

We spent the morning working hard and slowly moved around one of the side of the Island encountering some large patches of lantana further around.

We finished around 1 pm for lunch and then got a ride back to Bobbin Head.
