Sassafras Gully Fungi Walk – 6 March 2017

This was a pleasant and quite fruitful walk down Sassafras Gully looking for fungi and slime moulds.

I started down the track from Sassafras Gully Road and continued down to the Lagoon at the junction with Glenbrook Creek, then downstream to the junction with Magdala Creek and up that to Fairy Dell and Springwood shops.

On the way, I was pleased to see quite a but of fungi out after the recent rain.

I was in particular looking for some of the fungi I had seen out last year, at the same time (and a bit earlier – as it was much wetter at the start of the year). I was to disappointed. One of my goals was to find the “Blue Entoloma” (which appears to be Inocephalus virescens). I spotted a lot out in the same spot I had found a large cluster last year.

Also, it was nice t see some more early season waxcaps out –

And some of the other fungi –

And a few slime moulds –

More photos are online on my website here and continued on this page.

Just came across your site while searching for some canyoning notes, but these fungi photos are amazing. The colours and variations are just spectacular. Thanks for sharing – I will take more notice for some of these next time we’re out!
