Taronga Zoo – New Squirrel Monkey Walkthrough – 13 December 2016

Another day at the Zoo. This time, as a Zoo Friend, I had been invited to a preview of the new Squirrel Monkey Walkthrough.

It was a very hot day in Sydney and the animals were feeling the heat. I was too! My booking for the Squirrel Monkeys was not until the middle of the day. Due to the heat, I arrived early and spent a fair bit of time in the Platypus House and the Nocturnal House. These are always challenging places to try and get photos.

The new Squirrel Monkey Walkthrough was excellent. Its a bit like, but much larger, then the existing Lemur Walkthrough. The animals are in a large enclosure which you enter, so you can get up close to the monkeys. This is much nicer, both for visitors and the animals.  A small group of visitors are escorted on the visit by a keeper and they are able to answer questions.  The keeper told us that many of the female Squirrel Monkeys were pregnant so there should be a lot more of them in the future.

I later wandered around the rest of the Zoo. Many of the anime were taking it easy in the heat.

More photos from my visit are online on my website here.
