Woronora River Ramble – 18 November 2016

I spent a pleasant day with Digi Dave at the Woronora River recently. We were mainly looking for birds and orchids to photograph. We found quite a few birds – but none of them were really interesting and no orchids in flower. But we had a pleasant time wondering around.

We did venture up the track behind the RSL Club up Forbes Creek which is often an interesting place. There were lots of wild flowers out and lot of pollinators.

One photograph that I took that I later found to be quite interesting was a macro shot of the bud of a trigger plant. The bud was covered with tiny hairs and they are apparently “protocarnivorous and the hairs are sticky and can trap insects” (thanks Liz for this information).

After lunch (at the RSL Club), we crossed the river on the nearby footbridge and went upstream a short way along a fire road and then followed a track down to a ruin close to the river.
