Bush Regeneration at Barrenjoey – 5-6 November 2016

Our group spent a productive two days at Barrenjoey – doing some weeding – mainly in the area near the lighthouse over the weekend.

One thing about Barrenjoey is that we see a lot of wildlife while we are there. Last time we weeded there, we spotted a pod of dolphins, some penguins and a seal  resting on the rocks. This time we saw number of raptors including sea eagles and a peregrine falcon as well as a lot of other birds and also Blue Tongue Lizards and a number of different insects.

On this visit, when we arrived it was quite windy – and it stayed windy most of the weekend – so we mainly weeded the area around the lighthouse where we could shelter in the scrub a bit.

The weeds we removed included lantana, maid of millions, asparagus fern and bitou bush.

On Saturday evening, we had a nice BBQ in the picnic area on the spit and then headed back up to the lighthouse to stay overnight in the old lighthouse keepers cottage. This is a special place to spend the night with amazing views. Its a good place to see the sunrise.

We continued our weeding on Sunday morning, and then later had a tour of the historic lighthouse.
