River Red Gums on the Murrumbidgee 14 – 15 August 2016

David Hufton had invited me to join him on an outback road trip to Lake Mungo and some other national parks in South Western NSW and Western Victoria. His intention was to undertake a photographic trip, and this sounded good.

It turns out we had a great trip and were very fortunate with the weather and conditions we experienced.

Lake Mungo National Park is remote, being about 130 kms north of Balranald. So it would take the best part of two days to get there. We set off from Sydney and turned off the Hume Highway for Wagga Wagga and then continued along the Sturt Highway. We decided to camp on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River at Darlington Point. Our campsite was in a reserve next to the river where camping was allowed.

Around the campsite were a lot of great trees. River Red Gums. So we could spend a bit of time later that afternoon and early the next morning photographing them. Morning was the best – a nice atmospheric mist was forming above the river and drifting under the trees.
