Walk to the Coxs River – 12-13 December 2015

I joined a large group of Sydney University Bushwalkers and friends for the annual Christmas Walk down to the Coxs River via the Six Foot Track.

On the way down to Megalong, the group I was with stopped off at Coachwood Glen for a short break. This is great place to see fungi in a moist rainforest environment. But at this time of the year the fungi is very limited.

We then walked down to the river via the Six Foot Track. This year the level of water in the river was quite low. Not as low perhaps as 2009 or 2006. The main pool below the rapids was quite sandy but the pool a short way downstream was quite deep (I couldn’t touch the bottom) so that was where most of us swam.

There was a lot of dried up algae on the rapids – making them not very attractive. So that limited photographic subjects a bit. But there are always nice things to photograph with all the sculptured granite around.

Saturday evening is always very enjoyable – spent around the campfire. A good time to share fine food and drink and sing a few campsite songs till late in the evening.

More swimming on Sunday with plenty of cups of tea and jaffles cooked on the fire. Breakfast runs into lunch. A lazy time. A good time to indulge in some more photography.

More photographs of the walk are online here. Thanks again to Ashley Burke for organising the walk.
