Blue Mountains Canyoning – 25 October 2015

We had camped at Victoria Falls Lookout at Mt Victoria. Although there were quite a few cars in the carpark, we had the campground at the lookout to ourselves. There are good views at the lookout of the Grose Valley but the angle of the valley does not make it the best place for sunset and sunrise photos, despite the cliffs being very spectacular.

On Sunday morning, a group of us headed off to visit a nearby canyon. Unfortunately, not long after starting out, Enmoore got a very large splinter in her leg. It and broken off and could not be pulled out with the tools we had (small tweezers from a Swiss Army knife), so she walked out to get medical attention. Brent accompanied her. That left seven of us for the canyon – Wendy, Digi Dave Martin, Steffy, Su Li, Frances and myself.

The canyon, although not particularly spectacular, is quite interesting.  Old stone steps lead down into an amphitheatre high up in the creek. Lower down we found steps cut into the side of a small cascade. I wonder what the history of  this path is?

We continued through the canyon – down some short drops and a couple of short but cold swims. Then a walk down a nice gorge before climbing out via a steep pass.
