Tunnels and Fungi at Coachwood Glen 1-2 August 2015

After our inspection of the pollution of Wollangambe River, I joined some of the party for a walk along part of a historic narrow gauge railway near Clarence.  This started off through a tunnel, which was quite interesting. It was part of the original railway across the Blue Mountains – which was known as the Zig Zag.

The tunnel was well lined with sandstone bricks.

After the tunnel, we kept walking along the railway line, which ran next to the Chifley Road, to arrive at some old rolling stock. Unfortunately a lot of vandalism seems to have taken place.

Also, the railway line itself seems in bad condition –

We then returned to the cars and headed to Mt Wilson to camp. Next morning, I headed off with Wendy and Keith, to meet Peter and Steph at Blackheath. Keith then went to catch a train home, while the rest of us, after a slight diversion, went down into Megalong and enjoyed a few hours in Coachwood Glen. I was looking for fungi, but not much was out, and what was out was pretty old and dry. But, we did find a cordyceps!
