Coastal Walking – Cronulla and Cape Solander – 20 May 2015

I had a pleasant day wandering along the coast. I was on a trip with Digi Dave

We had a lunch appointment in Cronulla, so before that we walked along the coast near Cronulla Beach towards Sandshoes Beach.

Then after a very pleasant lunch, we headed out to Cape Solander in Kamay Botany Bay National Park and then walked out to the lighthouse at Cape Baily and back. For most of this walk we followed along the top of the cliffs, often following painted blue arrows. In places there was a track further inland – but it was often underwater so we stuck to the cliffs.

We saw many birds. A lot of New Holland Honeyeaters and a few flocks of Welcome swallows.

On the way we passed two zawns – deep narrow chasms coming in from the sea. To continue, we had to find tracks through the thick scrub around them.

It didn’t take to long to reach the lighthouse. It was on a high point and there were good views towards the city. We then walked back, more or less the same way returning to Cape Solander.
