Gore Hill to Balls Head Walk – 3 September 2014

I headed up to Lane Cove Bushland Park at Gore Hill to see if there were any end of season fungi out. There was nothing that I found worth photographing, despite recent rain. So, I took a few photos of the creek and then continued downstream to Gore Creek Reserve and around the Coastal Walking Track to Berry Island and then to Balls Head. This was a nice walk.

This walk features a lot of bushland, given its close proximity to the city.

I had never been to Berry Island before and it is most interesting place. It is really a land tied island. A track goes around the perimeter and there are many interpretive signs explaining aboriginal sites along the way.

Then I crossed Oyster Bay, which has an old gasworks next to a huge block of modern flats. I had rainstorm here so could not check out the old gasworks at all.

Then I walked past the old coal loader to Ball Head. This is a great place to stay for sunset. From Ball Head, its a short walk back to Waverton Station.
