Mainly Pelicans – Cooks River – 10 January 2014

I went down to see if the pelicans were about in Boat Harbour on the Cooks River. They were. At first here were only two. Then another one swam down the river and joined them. I sat watching them with the camera ready. The first two seemed to spend a lot of time either asleep or preening their feathers.

Later after I made trip to the Cup and Saucer Creek Wetland, another pelican had joined the three. They paired off – two on either side of the arms of the harbour.

I wanted to get some shots of them in flight – but they did not oblige. However their antics were interesting – doing a type of dance past each other – back and forth in a type of do-si-do movement.
