Spring is wildflower time in Royal National Park and its nice to spend a few days wandering along the coast. On the second day I was joined by Dan and Gab who had come up from Canberra.
This is a photographic essay mainly concentrating on the coastal rocks and flowers.
Lots of people were out and about. Hoards at Wottamolla, school groups doing the Coastal Track, coastal runners – jogging up and down the track – Bundeena to Otford and back, birders with binoculars and parties looking at the spectacular flower display.
The coastline is varied. Heathland fringing huge eroded cliffs near Bundeena. Marley Beach with its sand dunes and lagoon and some rock platforms with amazing contorted shapes. More cliffs and heath stretching towards Wottamolla. Waterfalls and a another lagoon. Curracurrong and Curracurrang – both beautiful places and startlingly different. Then a set of beaches – Garie, Era, and Burning Palms each with a community of shacks. From Burning Palms to the escarpment is a rainforest jungle that would be at home in Queensland.
At Era, we saw a pod of dolphins playing in the surf right next to a group of board riders.
