Asgard Plateau – 24-25 August 2013

It was a nice weekend to spend up the mountains. I went up with John, Chuin Nee and Jasper, and up at Mt Victoria we met up with Dave Os, Keith and others to walk out to the Asgard Plateau campsite. There we met Don, who had walked in earlier.

This is an easy walk of about 2 km. After setting up camp, some of us walked out to the nearby Thor Head to enjoy the view and to stay around for the sunset. Pleasant relaxing times in a great spot.

Sunset with the “Golden Hour” which went all too quickly.

Then back to camp for some very good food and drink and to celebrate Dave Os’s birthday.

With some difficulty, some of us got up early and headed back out to Thor Head before dawn in order to see the rising of the sun.

Back to camp for breakfast, then I headed out with John, Chuin Nee, Jasper and Keith for the fire trail that heads out towards Valhalla Head. this can be reached by walking back up the Asgard Swamp trail for a few minutes then heading a short way through the bush. We walked to the end of the trail, and then followed a track out to the cliffs that overlook Ikara Head.

Next, we walked back along this trail to where it joins up with another trail. This was a good place for lunch. Then we followed along to the end of the second trail. A track then descends to a creek next to Ikara Head. Chuin Nee followed this to the Ikara Climbing Area.

Then it was back along the trail to the Victoria Falls Road and the car.
