Govetts Leap and the Cliffs of Medlow Bath – 11 November 2018

I had been staying up at Blackheath after a BBQ at a friends place. Their house was fairly close to Govetts Leap Lookout, so I got up early and walked down to the lookout for sunrise. The dawn was reasonable but not too atmospheric.

Here are some more photos of the dawn  –

Back at my friend’s place, I photographed a few birds in their nice garden –

Grey Shrike-thrush

Eastern Spinebill

After breakfast, a group of us headed to Medlow Bath. Some of the party were rock climbing on he cliffs, and I was with John snd Chuin Nee and their two young boys – Jasper and Sebastian. The two kids both enjoyed some climbing –

I then went with John and Jasper for a walk down the nearby Sentinel Pass. This is an amazing old track, still in quay good condition that goes right down the cliffline using a series of ledges, cracks and ladders.

Young Jasper managed all the ladders OK, attached to a safety line. We then rejoined Chuin Nee and Sebastian and started climbing back up to the road. Along the track were some nice wildflowers including some Waratahs  –

And also the Native Currant (Leptomeria sp) had a profusion of fruit –

Part way back, we made the side trip to Marks Tomb for a look. Its a nice place, not far from the main track.
