Bundeena to Marley Walk – 6 July 2018

David Hufton was keen on a walk, and after some discussion we decided to walk down part of the coastline in Royal National Park – from Bundeena to Marley.

I was after some photos of whales, but the only ones we spotted were a long way out – and I ended up photographing a lot more birds than whales. The New Holland Honeyeaters were abundant and quite playful – and good subjects.

As well, the coastline is always a worthy photographic subject.

On the walk down to Marley, we passed The White Slab, also known as Wedding Cake Rock, which has become very popular with Instagrammers. Lots of people were there, but no one had climbed over the fence. Perhaps because National Parks staff were there. This would be different on our return.

At Marley, we walked up the dry creekbed to Marley Lagoon. And returned via the dunes. Interesting country.

More bird photos on the way back.

No vehicles at the White Slab on the way back, so no NPWS staff. Lots of people over the fence right out on the slab – trying to get their Insta photos.

Its a shame to see some graffiti gouged into the sandstone in places –

More looking for whales back at The Balconies. But again – the only whales we saw were a long way out to sea.

More photos are online here on my website.

Valuable photos for me as I saw you and Dave Hufton on that day at the aboriginal carving spot on my walk from Bundeena to Wattamolla and back when you were on
the look out for whales, Dave told me.
    Thank you.
