Cooks River Birds – 17 February 2018

I went down to the Cooks River in the late afternoon to see what birds were out.

I had an unsuccessful look for the Tawny Frogmouth family at the Dog Area, and there were not too many birds out at the Boat Harbour. A few Pelicans were floating on the river nearby and the odd cormorant flew past.

Not too much either at the Cup and Saucer Wetlands – although the turtle was sitting in the sun on its usual rock in the lowest pool.

But an Egret was hunting for food in Cup and Saucer Creek. It was interesting to watch it for a while.

Then I noticed a Striated Heron also on the bank a few metres downstream also on the lookout for food.

Then one of  pelicans paddled into the area –

It was interesting to watch them all –

The first to catch something was the Heron –

Then the Pelican may have got something –

And lastly the Egret dived in and got a fish –

I later headed downstream and got some photos of Welcome Swallows –

And the Corellas –
