I had the afternoon free after a morning spent in the city, so I caught a ferry to Watsons Bay and then set off along the Coastal Path heading south.
The weather was fairly dull, so not that atmospheric for coastal landscapes, so I concentrated on bird photography.
I was lucky very early on to spot a Nankeen Kestrel. When I first spotted it, it was sitting on a basketball goal post. It soon flew off – but perched on the grass and then in a nearby tree.
I have seen kestrels before in this area, but a bit further to the south near Diamond Bay. There I have seen up to three flying at the one time. But they have always been a long way off. This one was quite close, so I was able to get some reasonable photos.
The Kestrel then flew off, so I continued on my walk. I didn’t spot any more birds of prey despite a fair bit of looking where I had seen the kestrels and a Peregrine Falcon before.
I did spot some terns fishing in the sea, far below. Too far away for decent photos.
And some of the other birds –
I finished my walk at Dover Heights and caught a bus back to Bondi Junction.
