Cooks River Birds – 24 January 2018

I had been lucky on some recent trip to the Cooks River where I had been photographing the birdlife. Digi Dave was keen to see and photograph some of the birds, so he joined me on the afternoon.

We started at the Boat Harbour, where we found and then photographed the pair of Tawny Frogmouths resident in that area.

We then went upstream a short way to the Dog Area. We were looking for the Tawny Frogmouth family, and it took a while to spot them on this visit. They were not on their usual trees, which contain their nest. We were just about to leave, when I saw them on a Casuarina in the Dog Compound. We could see both chicks and their parents. Here is a selection of photos –

We then headed down to the Tempe Wetlands. Not too many birds out. We did photograph an Egret in the first pool. It seemed to be building a nest.
