Anvil Rock Lookout and The Grand Canyon 19 – 20 January 2018

Earlier in the day, David Hufton and myself had visited Rocky Creek Canyon. We had intended to camp in that area, but a total fire ban meant that we would not be able to cook our dinner on our stoves, so we headed to Blackheath for a pub dinner.

We then headed out to Anvil Rock Lookout for the sunset. It was a very pleasant evening. The heat of the day was thankfully diminishing. We camped nearby at Perrys Lockdown.

Next morning, we stopped off at Blackheath for breakfast, and then out to the Grand Canyon. Another very hot day was forecast, so we had decided on an early start.

We hadn’t brought an abseiling rope, so we entered the canyon from the bottom and ventured up to near the waterfall and back. Conditions in the canyon were very pleasant.

After the canyon, David headed back to the carpark via the way we had come – Neates Glen, while I walked up to Evans Lookout and back along the track to the Neates Glen carpark. We both arrived back at David’s car at almost the same time.

More photos from the trip are online here on my website.
