Burning Palms Walk – 4 December 2017

A wet day was forecast for our walk from Garrawarra to Burning Palms and around the loop through the Palm Jungle and along the Coastal Track and then back along Garrawarra Ridge.

Brian Everingham had organised the walk for the National Parks Association of NSW. The party was Brian, Esther, Allen, Sheila and myself. The weather forecast prove to be correct, but the bulk of the rain held off till we had almost finished the walk.

We drove out to Garrwarra Farm and then descended on the track down to Burning Palms. At the top, we noticed the new sign pointing out to visitors heading to the Figure Eight Pool that there were no shops down there.

The descent was atmospheric with mist in the forest. When we broke out onto the ridge above Burning Palms we could see that the sea was too high for any trips out to the Figure Eight Pool that morning.

We continued on on the Coastal Track to Burning Palms and then climbed up to the Palm Jungle.

We stopped for lunch at a sheltered spot in the Palm Jungle. Then continued uphill to the Garrwarra Ridge.

The last part of the walk was along the fire road on Garrawarra Ridge back to the cars. On the way we spotted quite a few orchids in flower.

Light rain was falling. Just was we reached the cars, the rain got heavier – so good timing.

This was a very pleasant day in the bush. Thanks to Brian for organising. More photos of the walk are online here on my website.
