Tempe Wetlands and Cooks River – Birds and More – 16 Nov 2017

I decided I would make another trip down to Tempe Wetlands and have a look for more Rails. After that, I would make my way along the Cooks River and look for Tawnies.

Olive-backed Oriole

At the Tempe Wetlands I had no luck spotting any Rails. I spent a bit of time photographing the Fairy Martins and Welcome Swallows darting close to the surface of the pools. Here is a Fairy Martin –

And some Welcome Swallows –

Also a Superb Fairy Wren –

There are always a lot of skinks around these wetlands. I guess there is plenty of hiding places for them in the rocks.

Also a Bulbul –

I then cycled up the Cooks River Cycleway. At Gough Whitlam Park there was a niceĀ Olive-backed Oriole sitting high in a tree and in full song. Nice to hear!

Not too much out at the Boat Harbour – I could not spot any Tawny Frogmouths at all. Also none at the Dog Area. So I crossed over to the Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands and spotted something unusual –

As I took a few photos, they quickly dropped off the rock into the water.

This rock is about the only low rock in these wetlands. It often has one turtle sitting on it. But this is the first time I have seen two like this. I think these are Eastern Long necked Turtles.

I then took a few photos of the Dusky Moorhen chicks.

After this, I noticed one of the turtles had climbed back onto the rock.
