Nature at Wolli Creek – 12 November 2017

After visiting Tempe in the morning, I decided to visit Wolli Creek in the afternoon. I only went to the middle part of the valley – between Bardwell Park and Turrella.

I caught a bus to Earlwood, and walked down to Girrahween Park. On the way I looked for orchids  – I had seen some in that area last year. I could not see any near Girraween Park, but little bit down the Two Valleys Track I did spot some coming up. They should be in flower later in the month.

I also was looking out for birds – and was able to photograph some New Holland Honeyeaters and a Silvereye.

Lower down the valley, at the Fying Fox Camp – I spent some time trying to photograph the Flying Foxes. At this time of the year, many of the females have babies. The young cling to their mothers for their early life, and even remain attached while their mothers are flying. I was after photos of them in flight. But this is hard to do. They do fly during the day – but not often, and quite unpredictably. So it is hard to know where to point the camera. Also – the places at Wolli Creek that are closest to the Camp only have a small window through the trees that you can clearly seem them. Its easier to photograph them a little further downstream – when they often fly across the creek – but then they are a lot further away. I was able to get some photos – but no good ones.

And I finished off at Turrella Reserve with a few more birds –
