Royal National Park – Northern Coastline – Photo Essay

Here are some photos of another trip to Royal National Park.

This time I was concentrating on the area near Curracurrong and Eagle Rock. I walked there and back from Bundeena.

On the way down (and back) I passed the well known feature on the cliffs between the Waterrun, south of Bundeena and Marley Head. It is now signposted as “Wedding Cake Rock”, but I am not sure of its original name. I recall seeing one name for it – “The White Slab”, and this is the name it is called in “Understanding The Scenery” by Bob and Ann Young, which I have just been reading. It is an interesting guide to the landscape of Royal National Park and Heathcote National Park. well worth obtaining. The “White Slab” seems to me a more apt name.

The White Slab

On this visit a different ensemble of wildflowers are in bloom compared to a month earlier.  I saw a lot of beautiful and delicate Fringe Lillies out, including the rare white variety at one place –

Here are some other flowers –

And some animals –

But, it is the wild coastline that is the best thing for the camera to capture –

More photos are online here on my website.
