Nature at Wolli Creek – 3 August 2017

After a little bit of recent rain (only 7 mm) earlier in the week, I thought it may be worth a look for fungi along Wolli Creek. I was not that hopeful however, and also took a telephoto lens as well as a macro lens.

The fungi was poor, but there was still a lot to see and photograph. Rain was forecast, so I only spent a few hours out, mainly between Bardwell Park and Turrella.

I found lot of orchids – Greenwoods of two species, out. Much the same as a few weeks earlier.

On this trip, having the telephoto lens, I spent most too the time photographing the Flying Foxes. They are challenging subjects. During the day most of them are asleep. But there are always a few that are awake and some of those must get a bit restless and like to fly to a different perch. There are so many flying foxes in the Wolli Creek camp that at any one time there are a few in the air, but its almost impossible to have the camera ready to photograph the ones that are flying. A bit of luck is needed, as well you need to be prepared to take a lot of dud photos.

I also found a few birds along the way –

More photos are online here on my website.
