Bundeena to Marley Walk – 23 May 2017

Brian Everingham had organised a photographic walk for the National Parks Association of NSW from Bundeena to Marley and back in Royal National Park. On the trip, as well as Brian and myself were Ken, John, Valerie, Gary, Esther, Allen and James.

It was a beautiful day. We soon arrived at the Balconies and then we looked in vain for whales. With no luck, we turned our lenses to the resident population of New Holland Honeyeaters.

With lots of photography stops, our progress south was quite slow. We arrived at the Waterrun for morning tea. Gary, who was sitting facing the ocean saw the spray made by a whale. But he was the only one to see it. After more watching we then continued along the track.

Esther and James were walking in front and spotted a red belly black snake basing in the sun. Unfortunately it had gone by the time the photographers arrived.

When we arrived at Marley Head we again stopped to look for whales, and again without any success. But we did enjoy watching the gannets diving for fish.

Brian and some of the others headed back, while Ken, John and myself, who had more time walked down to Marley Beach to look for birds on the rock platform.

On our way back, we spotted a sea eagle flying above. It circled around a few times.

At Wedding Cake Rock, as usual the was a crowd of instagrammers that had climbed over the barriers with their selfie sticks.

This was a very pleasant day out. Thanks to Brian for organising. More photos are online on my website here.
