Lane Cove Valley Fungi – 21 May 2017

After a very worthwhile visit to Ferndale Park at Chatswood the day before, I thought it may be worth another visit along the Lane Cove River looking for fungi.

Cordyceps takaomontana

I had a pleasant and rewarding walk – from Thornleigh to the De Burgh Bridge along the Great North Walk track, then across the bridge and then along the Riverside Track to Porters Creek. I then walked to Macquarie Park Station.

It was nice at the start to find a fair bit of fungi out at in the upper part of the river below Thornleigh Oval. Corals and a few green waxcaps.

Further down the valley, in the drier areas,  I found quite a few varieties of spine fungi out –

I also found Cordyceps takaomontana. This fungi parasitises beetle larvae. Also nice to find was some trumpet fungi –

I had not seen this species in the valley before.

At Porters Creek area, I was very pleased to see some very viscid green waxcaps coming out. These are the ones I think are Gliophorus psitticinus. This would mean more visits would be needed to see how they change.

As well as all this nice fungi, I was pleased to spot quite a few orchids out –

Here are some more fungi photos –

More photos are online on my website here.
