Garie Bushwalk – 28 March 2017

I went on a pleasant morning photography walk organised by Brian Everingham for the National Parks Association of NSW. We met at the Garie beach carpark and set off along the beach to the north end.

On the walk as well as Brian were Ken, Suzanne, John, Digi Dave and myself. One of the things Brain wanted to do was to check out the recently competed track work completed on the hill north of the beach. This used to be a very bad section of the Coastal Track – badly eroded and requiring walkers to take huge steps. Now it has been rebuilt to a very high standard that should last many years.

Once at the top of the hill, we left the track and walk out to a lookout that gave good views south.

Back on the Coastal Track we continued north past the junction with the Curra Moors Track to a large rock platform and waterfall. We then returned back to Garie Beach.

On the way out and back we were able to photograph a nice greenhood orchid (we could only find one), and lots of other flowers and fungi, insects and birds. On the way back we saw an echidna – but it was rather shy.

Back at Garie, we went out to the rock platform at the north end of the beach for a few photos and then walked back to the carpark.

There, most of the party had lunch and Digi Dave and myself headed to the Curra Moors Track and did a short walk out along the moors looking for an ants nest Digi Dave had seen a few days earlier. There was also quiet bit of nice fungi out.

More photos from the day are online on my website here.
