Gardens of Stone In Focus – Photo Exhibition

I had the pleasure of attending the Gardens of Stone in Focus Photographic Exhibition yesterday. As well as being able to look at a great collection of photos of this very beautiful region there was a series of talks on different aspects of the values of the Gardens of Stone.

Being able to see so many attractive photographs makes one wonder why it is not yet a national park. The present Gardens of Stone National Park only covers about one third of the area that is worthy of protection.

One of the talks I went to was by Hadyn Washington who has researched the amazing geodiversity of the area – in particular the international significance of the pagodas. You can download a new publication that highlights these values.

Another talk was by Blue Mountains based photographer Gary Hayes. His talk was on the photographic challenges and opportunities that the Gardens of Stone presents. Gary has taken many wonderful photos of the area.

Ian Brown, another Blue Mountains photographer and also an environmental consultant has recently prepared a report on the Heritage Values of the Gardens of Stone Reserve Proposal. The report can be downloaded from this page.

At the exhibition we were also able to see a new video that showcases some of the area –

Well done Joel Robinson, Jochen Spencer and others who put this together.

As well, a new Gardens of Stone Website has been set up. The Blue Mountains Conservation Society also has this page. For Bushwalking information on the Gardens of Stone have a look at the Bush Explorers Website.

I have been looking through some of my photos and set up a new gallery of pictures taken in the Gardens of Stone – Stage 2 Proposal area.

Protecting the Gardens of Stone is an important task. Please consider helping by becoming a Gardens of Stone Protector. See more information on this page at the Colong Foundation for Wilderness.
