Nature on the Cooks River – 2 March 2016

It was a hot day, and better suited to some relaxing photography than something too active. In the morning, I cycled down to the Cooks River with my camera.

I went up to the Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands and look about. Not too much happening. Close by, a White Faced Heron was sunning itself. Another heron, a Striated heron flew up the river. Both made interesting subjects.

Riding past Ewan Park I was surprised to see some stinkhorn fungi out.

I then slowly rode down the river to Tempe and made my way to the Tempe Wetlands. At this time of the day, there was not too many birds about and so I photographed some dragonflies.

I did eventually spot a few Red Browed Finches.

I then rode home.

Later in the afternoon, I met up with Digi Dave. He was interested in seeing the Landing Lights Wetland, so we headed there. The water level was much lower then my previous visit, and the number of birds was far less. But we walked around taking photos for a couple of hours.

We walked down to Muddy Creek, opposite Kyeemagh Reserve. There we noticed a few more herons. What was upsetting however, was the huge amount of rubbish – mainly plastic bottles everywhere under the mangroves. Very sad!
